In May 2026, Skyports Infrastructure and the City of Gold Coast signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on implementing advanced air mobility (AAM) within the city. The agreement was signed at Gold Coast Chambers by Yun Yuan Tay, Head of APAC at Skyports, and Mayor Tom Tate.

Under the MoU, Skyports will lead development of a vertiport network and supporting infrastructure, including regulatory pathways, site scoping, and landowner engagement. The company has discussed locations including Gold Coast Airport with Queensland Airports Limited.

Industry materials cite a potential reduction of a typical 45-minute road trip between Gold Coast Airport and Broadbeach to roughly five to seven minutes by air — subject to CASA certification and infrastructure delivery. No commercial passenger service operates today.

What this means for residents

The MoU is a planning step, not a launch announcement. Community consultation, airspace design, and operator licensing would still be required before any Gold Coast sky taxi carries paying passengers.
